Kent and Rachael O’Donnell - New Zealand

Kent and Rachael O’Donnell work with the church in Palmerston North, New Zealand. They have four children: Chloe, Ethan, Michael, and Phoebe. New Zealand is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, lying 1200 miles east of Australia, with a population of about 5.34 million. Palmerston North is 87 mi. north of Wellington (capital), with a population of about 91,800.
As of 2024, the congregation has 62 members of a broad range of ages and cultures. The aim is to encourage and equip the brethren to grow in faith, knowledge, and service. We want to nurture a strong family nucleus, emphasize the need for mature leadership, and urge active participation in our various works. While it’s a peaceful place to live, New Zealand is steadily becoming more secular and less moral; it’s heading in an apathetic direction and sometimes even antagonistic to Christian principles. This makes evangelism a challenge, yet effort is not lacking. A variety of approaches are employed, including campaigns, door-knocking, letterboxing, benevolence events, seminars/gospel meetings, etc. Of course, we encourage the brethren to engage in everyday friendship outreach, too. When interest is gained, we utilize practical teaching tools to bring individuals to obedient faith. Conversions are few and far between, but we rejoice in the increases God has granted. In recent years, 11 souls have been baptized, 9 of which remain faithful. Despite the difficult spiritual soil and slow progress, we’ll continue sowing the seed and providing opportunities.
