The Heartbeat of Faith

The driving force of genuine faith has never been “I think” or “I feel” or “I want.” The heartbeat of faith is “God said.”

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He responded by quoting Scripture. Throughout His ministry, He often asked, “What does the Scripture say?” If the Word made flesh relied on God’s written word, how much more should we?

There has always been law in every age; not as a burden, but as a gift. In the patriarchal age, God spoke to heads of households. In the Mosaic age, He gave detailed commandments. In the Christian age, we live under the law of Christ.

Trembling reverence for every word God has spoken isn’t legalism. Submission to God’s will doesn’t negate grace. Legalism is adding our own requirements to God’s commands. Obedience is simply accepting God’s grace and responding in faith.
